B9 School
Something Good Is Happening Here!
B9 School began as a vague dream in 1998 while I was struggling to develop my craft
as a devoted public school teacher in Bergen County, New Jersey. I was studying
Administration at Montclair State University and writing my thesis at that time. I am
also a certified teacher of Spanish and English as a Second Language.
Having retired from public school, I am no longer shackled by the constraints or
bound by rules of a system that instills fear and distrust in too many learners and
their families. Growth happens in an atmosphere that welcomes the learner as he/she
is and encourages the learner towards his/her best promise as an individual. Growth
happens when trust and faith are present. The best use of energy is building on a
student's source of strength. Focusing on weakness invites embarrassment and shame.
Those are breeding grounds for despair.
I welcome the opportunity to learn along with students of any age who are going in
the direction of their best tomorrow. Come study with me! Your mañana is waiting!
Let's greet it together ...¡ vámonos !
Efficiency is highly overrated as an admirable quality. It robs one of the wondrous
journey of discovery, the unique perspective and history each who struggles brings to
the journey of learning, which in the end, is about a vision, much revision, and daring
to do. This takes time-time to silence the chatter that interfered with one's authentic
learning the first time, silence and space to unlearn what matters not, and the
willingness to chose a path traveled with a partner who will celebrate the learner's
milestones as he dares to unlock a portal and demystify mastery.
Real learning... takes time, trust, and a teacher who knows this. ljg
About B9
"One of the greatest feelings in life is
the conviction that you have lived the life
you wanted to live-with the rough and the
smooth, the good and the bad-but yours,
shaped by your own choices, and not
someone else's."
--Michael Ignatieff
